Each year, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) hosts Operation Safe Driver Week, this year running from July 13-19, 2025. The goal is simple: to reduce unsafe driving behaviors through education and enforcement.
At People Source, we proudly support drivers and employers committed to safety-not just during one week, but every day. Here’s what every CDL driver should know:
1. Start with Pre-Trip Inspections
Before hitting the road, drivers should inspect their tires, brakes, lights, mirrors, fluid levels, load securement, and coupling devices. Preventive checks are the first defense against road hazards. Don’t let Brake issues be a top concern for you on the road!
2. Keep Your Documents Ready
During Safety Week, law enforcement officials may conduct roadside inspections. Being able to quickly present your CDL, medical certificate, ELD logs, and vehicle registration shows professionalism-and helps prevent violations.
3. Always Stop at Weigh Stations
Missing a weigh station or bypassing inspection can lead to citations, delays, and increased scrutiny of your CSA score. Always comply with signage and inspection requests.
“CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Week will focus heavily on compliance at weigh stations.”

4. Manage Speed & Space
Reckless behaviors like speeding, tailgating, and unsafe lane changes are major enforcement targets this year. Maintain safe distances, especially when fully loaded or driving in poor conditions.
“84% of crashes involve risky driver behavior-not equipment failure.”

5. Stay Hydrated & Well-Rested
Fatigue and dehydration are silent threats. Take your breaks, drink plenty of water, and follow HOS rules to avoid burnout.
Driver fatigue can be preventable with the right steps!
Why This Week Matters
Safety Week isn’t just about citations-it’s about building safer habits that protect everyone on the road. A clean record during enforcement campaigns helps:
- Improve your CSA score
- Keep your insurance premiums lower
- Build your professional reputation
